Practice Present Simple with readings
Students should ideally discover not only the usefulness but also the pleasure of being able to read in a second language.
The objective of this activity is to practice,
activate and reinforce your skills, such as grammar, vocabulary and writing, by
means of several readings.
Here you will read a text and answer some
questions. Let's see how good your reading comprehension is.
Ana´s Job

Paul and Sofia´s life
I’ m Paul Perez. I’m a doctor. I work at a
hospital. My wife, Sofia, is a teacher. She teaches Music at a college. We get up
at seven o’clock every morning. Sofi sets the table, and we have breakfast. Sofia
likes toast and tea, but I don’t. I eat an egg and I drink milk at breakfast.
Then, we leave home at a quarter past eight. I start to work at nine o’clock. I
am very busy, so I can’t have a break. At half past twelve, I have lunch at the
hospital cafeteria. The food at the cafeteria is very good, so I don’t go out for
lunch. Sofia returns home at three o’clock in the afternoon, and I come back at
five o’clock. Afterwards, we have dinner at half past six. I watch TV in the
evenings, but Sofia doesn’t. She reads a book, or she listens to music. We go to
bed early after a tiring day. At weekends we go to the cinema or theatre. My wife
and I like shopping, so we usually go on shopping on Saturdays. We have a holiday
every August. We often go to Izmir in Turkey for holiday. I ride a bike and Sofia
walks around, because she doesn’t know how to ride a bike. We like Izmir very
much, so we go to there every summer.

Hilda and her daughter
Hilda Martinez wants her daughter Sabrina 16, to know that she’s there anytime Sabrina needs her and that she’ll never let her down. But she works all day and Sabrina is always busy with school and her singing lessons and hanging out with her boyfriend. So, Hilda often sends Sabrina a WhatsApp message on her cell phone. ‘I ask her how she’s doing or say I love you’, says Hilda. It’s also easy for Sabrina to tell her mother where she is and when she’ll be home. But sometimes, it seems like they’re overdoing it. ‘Quit often I’m in my room and send a WhatsApp message to my mum who’s in the kitchen’, says Sabrina. ‘Texting makes it easy to avoid talking to each other face-to-face.’
