SIMPLE PRESENT The purpose of this section is to explain briefly but concretely the use of this grammatical tense.  Here you can read the information provided or watch the video.    It is used to describe  habits, unchanging situations, general truths, and fixed arrangements .  The simple present tense is simple to form. Just use the base form of the verb: (I play, you play, we play, they play) The 3rd person singular takes an -s at the end. (he plays, she plays) Structure Affirmative (+):           S + V(s/es) + O. Negative (-):           S+ don/t/doesn/t + V (base form) + O. Interrogative (?):        Do/does + S + V(base form) + O ? Usage To express habits, general truths, repeated actions or unchanging situations, emotions and wishes: I study  (habit);  I work in Newyork  (unchanging situation);  London is a large city  (general truth) To give instructions...

Practice your listening

The objective of this practice is to boost listening comprehension. Our ultimate goal is to help students understand native English speakers, not only for the mere purpose of comprehension, but also so they may respond accordingly and interact with others.   Without listening comprehension, there can be no conversation, no communication. Now listening comprehension involves a lot more than simply un derstanding the vocabulary and expressions used. Students must also be able to understand the speaker’s accent and grasp his or her meaning and intention.  So, it is clear to see that in the ESL classroom we simply do not listen for the sake of listening.  We listen with a purpose.
